What is SpeedFan
SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures
in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info and show
hard disk temperatures. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too.
SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature).
SpeedFan can access digital temperature sensors and can change fan speeds
accordingly, thus reducing noise.
SpeedFan works fine with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, Windows 7, 2008, Windows 8, Windows 10 and
Windows Server 2012. It works with Windows 64 bit too.
SpeedFan can access the temperature sensors available on your motherboard and on your nVidia video
card. The most widely available temperatures are from the chipset, the CPU, the ambient and from
the power circuitry.
Modern CPUs can report their own internal temperature. Multi-core CPUs are often able to report
temperatures from each single core. SpeedFan can access those readings and report changes.
More powerful hardware (motherboards, CPUs, video cards and hard disks) often requires more power.
More power leads to more heat to dissipate. A proper airflow inside the computer cabinet helps to
keep temperatures low. Inside computers there are fans that create such an airflow. SpeedFan can

SpeedFan 4.51 Final is now online! It adds support for a lot of new hardware. This version defaults
to no SCSI access if the Intel Storage Driver is found. ITE IT8620E (used on several Gigabyte
boards) support has been greatly enhanced (now SpeedFan can control up to 5 fans and report voltages
too). PWM4 and PWM5 on ITE IT8620E are now disabled by default (please, read
this article). Added full support for Windows 10.

SpeedFan 4.50 Final is now online! It adds support for a lot of new hardware. The most interesting
features should be full Nuvoton NCT6791D support. A lot of Asus lovers will appreciate it,
but that chip is on many other motherboards too. Another interesting improvement is 3ware RAID
controllers support on 64 bit systems. The whole 3ware support has been rewritten. More CPU
Core temperatures are now reported and/or reported correctly. There are several fixes here and
there.
What's more interesting, though, is that there is more to come! Stay tuned and check the
beta area on this site :-)

Version 4.49 replaces version 4.48 (released just a few hours earlier) fixing a typo that caused
ACPI temperatures to be reported wrongly on some Windows 7. The installer has changed its naming
schema too, in order to avoid a boring "feature" of Windows that was reporting to SpeedFan's
installer the wrong Windows version.

This version greatly improves DELL support, nVidia I2C support works again with driver 275
and above, and ATI Radeon support no longer sets the video card fan to 100% on program exit.
It adds support for Intel X79 (Patsburg) and ServerWorks HT1000 SMBus. USB external enclosures
using SAT, SunPlus, IoData and Logitech chipsets are now supported and hard disk SMART data can be
accessed. Areca RAID support has been improved as well as SAS controllers support. Asus ATK0110
support tries to use the best interface when the ACPI BIOS exposes multiple ones (please, report if
support is broken for your motherboard model). Added support for additional hardware and fixed
minor bugs.

This version adds full support for new hardware. Most notably: Asus ATK0110 and DELL. Fan speeds
are reported on an increased number of configurations, including laptops and this will be the
foundation for more supported hardware in the future. ARECA RAID support has been improved
using the latest library. Another great feature is the brand new Advanced Fan Control
strategy that lets you configure custom fan responses using a graphical UI.

SpeedFan 4.43 Final is online! 
This release is the result of several months of coding and testing. This should be
the best SpeedFan ever. UI (User Interface) responsiveness has been greatly improved. Startup
has been greatly improved too and startup lockups should belong to the past. Nvidia video card
support is fully working again. Support for several new chips has been added and fan speed
control (PWM) has been improved and verified on a wide variety of systems. Support for the
latest Intel 6 Series motherboards has been added. The changes are really a lot. Have a look at
the full change log for more detailed information.
Full support for exact voltage readings (Intel is actively providing the relevant info
and other manufacturers are welcome) and support for built-in configurations have been
added to this release. These are the basis for better hardware support in the future.
SpeedFan now requires and enforces administrator privileges. This means, for example, that Intel
QST and S.M.A.R.T. hard disk reporting will work out of the box.
Really a lot of improvements and fixes have been applied. I will appreciate your SEND REPORTs
from SpeedFan's INFO tab.

Greatly improved nVidia video card support. Where available, the hardware monitor chip is
exposed and fan speeds can be changed (because I2C writes are now fully supported). Intel QST
support has been greatly improved too. Version 2.x is tested first and 1.x is used if needed. This
fixes a detection issue with systems where the HECI driver has been upgraded through versions.
Support for external USB drives has been improved and now those that use a JMicron controller are
fully supported. A lot of bug fixes and performance improvements were applied and new hardware is
supported. As usual, both the installer and the executable are digitally signed with my
company's (SOKNO S.R.L.) certificate.

SpeedFan 4.41 Final is online! 
There are so many improvements in this release. Intel QST support has been greatly improved, including
version 2.x and adding full fan control. Support for several Nuvoton chips (like the W83667HG,
the W83667HG-B and the W83677HG-I) has been rewritten and fully verified. USB enclosures using Cypress
chipsets are now supported and SMART data is read. Events now can react to hard disk fitness and
performance values. The glitch related to the OK button while editing events is now gone. A lot of
bug fixes and performance improvements were applied and a lot of new hardware has been supported.

New hard disk database is online! 
SpeedFan's online in-depth hard disk analysis now uses an updated revision of its internal
database containing the model for each known hard disk. Currently there are 2684 known hard disk
models. The latest hard disks are included in the db and all the models have been updated. This
means, for example, that new hard disks now properly inform about their "Power On Hours
Count" taking into consideration the real values reported by the end users.
