HandBrakeはオープンソースのビデオトランスコーダー。
デバイス用に最適化されたプロファイルを選択するか、標準/高品質変換用のユニバーサルプロファイルを選択することで素早く使い始めることができる。高度なオプション設定で駆使してエンコードをさらに改善することも可能。
一般的なマルチメディアファイルや、コピープロテクトを含まないDVDまたはBluRayソースを入力として扱うことができる。
以下の出力形式に対応している。
- ファイルコンテナ： .MP4、.MKVとWebM
- ビデオエンコーダー: AV1、H.265とH.264、MPEG-4とMPEG-2、VP8とVP9
- オプションのハードウェアアクセラレーションビデオエンコーディング

タイトル/チャプター/範囲選択、バッチスキャンとエンコードのキューイング、チャプターマーカー、字幕（VobSub、クローズドキャプションCEA-608、SSA、SRT）、一定品質または平均ビットレートのビデオエンコーディング、VFRとCFRのサポート、ビデオフィルタ機能、ライブ静止画および動画プレビューなどの機能を搭載。
