Reclamation: The process of replacing a set of files that have identical contents with space-saving clones of each other, reclaiming disk space. When a file is “reclaimed” that means it is replaced with a space-saving clone.
Target file: In each group of identical files, one file in the group is designated as the source file and the rest are “target” files. The target files will be replaced with space-saving clones during reclamation.
General settings:
Restore folder dates - When enabled, folder modification dates will be restored to the values they had before reclamation began.
Advanced settings:
Applications (i.e., .app packages) are always ignored, regardless of the state of this setting.
Reclaim files inside packages - When enabled, the contents of package directories will be eligible for reclamation. This setting has no effect unless the “Scan inside packages” setting is enabled.
Applications (i.e., .app packages) are always ignored, regardless of the state of this setting.
Once Photos access has been granted in System Settings, the “Allow Photos access” setting within Hyperspace can be turned on or off as desired at any time.
As mentioned earlier, the green and red “+” and “-” buttons can be used to add and remove folders to scan. Multiple folders provide more files to scan, of course, but they also potentially allow more duplicates to be found.
Q: How does Hyperspace determine if two files are identical?
To determine if two files have identical contents, Hyperspace first compares the file sizes. If the files are not exactly the same size, down to the byte, then the files are not identical.
