Microsoftは今年の5月、Edgeブラウザを実行するためのハードウェア要件を変更すると発表しました。Edgeを実行するために、SSE3命令セットが必須になるという変更で、6月にStableチャンネルでリリースされたEdge 126から有効になるはずでした。
しかし今回、Microsoftはこのハードウェア要件の変更が若干延期されたことを静かに発表しています。
petriによるとMicrosoftは、M365 Admin Centerアプリで送信されたメッセージの中で、SSE3に対応していないPCでのEdgeサポートの終了をバージョン128まで延期したと説明した模様。ただし、Edgeのハードウェア要件変更の遅れに関する説明はありません。
MC823307 – Microsoft is changing the hardware requirements for Microsoft Edge. Starting in Microsoft Edge version 128, devices that do not have a CPU with SSE3 will no longer be supported or receive updates, including critical security updates.

This change will roll out to Stable channels of Edge no-sooner than the end of August 2024.
How this will affect your organization:
Users with devices without SSE3 will no longer receive Microsoft Edge updates once this change is implemented.
Impacted devices will see a banner in Microsoft Edge versions 126 & 127 stating:
“This computer will soon stop receiving Microsoft Edge updates because its hardware is no longer supported.”
What you need to do to prepare:
Users with devices without SSE3 will need to move to a device with SS3 to continue receiving Microsoft Edge updates. While not recommended, users will have access to Edge version 128 on devices without SSE3. However, they will not receive any updates, including critical security updates.

Microsoft Edge 126/127から非対応PCでは、「このコンピュータは、ハードウェアがサポートされなくなったため、Microsoft Edgeのアップデートの受信をまもなく停止します」というバナーが表示されるようになります。
SSE3がサポートされていないPCでEdge 128はまだ動作すものの、機能やセキュリティのアップデートは受信できなくなり、これらの古いPCでEdge 128を使い続けることは推奨されていません。
Edge 128がStableチャンネルでリリースされるのは、早くても8月下旬になる見込みです。なお、SSE3は2004年に導入された古い命令で、20年以上前のPCでEdgeがサポートされなくなることを示しています。このため、今回の変更が影響を与えるPCはごく一部だと考えられます。
