Windows用の人気メディアプレイヤー「Winamp」の最新版「Winamp 5.9 RC1」が7月26日(現地時間)に公開されました。

新バージョンは2018年に公開されたWinamp 5.8 beta以来、4年にわたる作業の集大成とされています。開発チームはリリースが遅れた理由として、パンデミックによる休止期間の存在や、プロジェクトのVS2008からVS2019への移行の困難さをあげています。

ビルド環境の更新はユーザーには大きな影響はないものの、開発作業を行うための基礎ができあがったため、今後は新機能の開発に集中できるとのことです。

Winamp 5.9では、Windows 11との互換性やhttps://ストリームの再生機能、vp8のサポート、.itz、.mdz、.s3z、.xmz 圧縮モジュールの再生などに関する改良が行われています。またPodcastディレクトリが追加され、Bentoスキンからブラウザのタブが削除されています。メモリリークの修正や、コードのリファクタリングも行われています。
