Windows Server 2008のサポートが2026年1月13日をもって正式に終了し、Windows Vista／Longhorn系コードベースが歴史に幕を下ろしました。

Windows Server 2008はVista/LonghornをベースにしたサーバーOSです。これまで、企業向けの延長サポート(Premium Assurance → ESU)が続いていましたが。2026年1月で完全に終了となりました。これにより 技術サポートもセキュリティ更新も完全に停止することになります。
クライアント版のOSであるVistaは不人気だったものの、Server 2008は企業環境で長く利用されてきました。人気も高く、2019年時点で60%のWindows Server環境がServer 2008を使用していたという報告もあります。
今後、依然としてServer 2008 を使っている企業は、Windows Server 2022や2025 などの現行サポート製品への移行が必須となります。Server 2008 R2 は Windows 7ベースであり、Vista系コードベースとは異なる点にも注意が必要です。
