Appleは先日、アクティブノイズキャンセリングを搭載した新型の「AirPods 4」を発表しました。
従来「AirPods Pro」シリーズでしか提供されていなかったノイズキャンセリング機能が、初めて「AirPods
」に搭載されたことで、注目を集めていますが、乗り換えを検討している場合は、注意しなければいけないことがあるようです。
Appleは公式サイトで、AirPods Pro 2は 「AirPods Pro(第1世)およびAirPods 4のアクティブノイズキャンセリング機能と比較して、最大2倍のアクティブノイズキャンセリング機能」を提供すると述べているからです(9to5Mac)。
AirPods ProとAirPodsの大きな違いはデザインにあり、AirPodsは「オープンイヤーデザイン」を、AirPods Proは「インイヤーデザイン」を採用しています。
イヤーチップを持つAirPods Proの遮音性やノイズキャンセリング性能が高いのは妥当だと思われますが、それでもAirPods Pro 4は、初代AirPods Proほどのノイズキャンセリング性能を実現しているととらえることもできます。
AirPods 4のデザインについてAppleは次のように説明しています。

最も自然なリスニング体験を提供するためにハードウェアとソフトウェアが連携し、ANC付きのAirPods 4には、ユーザが周囲の環境に常に注意を払い続ける透明モード、ユーザの環境の状況に基づいて透明モードとANCを動的にブレンドするアダプティブオーディオ、近くの人と話し始めるとユーザのメディア音量を下げる会話認識などのインテリジェントな機能も導入されています。
AirPods Proの圧迫感が苦手だけど、ノイズキャンセリングを使用したいという場合、AirPods 4は新たな選択肢となりそうです。
なお、AirPods Pro 2の価格は39,800円、ノイズキャンセリング機能付きのAirPods 4は29,800円となっています。
