Microsoft、Windows Terminalの最新版でSSE 4.2に対応していない古いCPUを意図的にブロックしていないことを確認

Microsoftは3月26日(現地時間)、Windows向けのターミナルソフト「Windows Terminal」の最新安定版ver 1.19.10821.0をリリースしました。

最新版のリリースノートには、MicrosoftがSSE 4.2(PopCnt命令)に対応していない古いCPUを意図的にサポート対象外にしているのではないかという最近の憶測を否定する情報が含まれています。

Microsoftの開発者Dustin L. Howett氏は、GitHubのIssuesで次のように説明しています。

There's a compiler bug in MSVC 19.38 that results in the output of the CPUID instruction being misinterpreted, among other things. It turns out that the 1057x build series of Terminal was built with MSVC 19.38.

MSVC 19.38にはコンパイラのバグがあり、CPUID命令の出力などが誤って解釈されます。Terminal の 1057x ビルドシリーズは MSVC 19.38 でビルドされていることが判明しました。

MicrosoftはすでにSSE4.2へ依存していたVisual C++ライブラリ(VCLibs)のバグを修正しています。リリースノートには、「Intel Core 2 DuoマシンでTerminalを再び動作させるため、古いコンパイラーにロールバックした」との情報が含まれています。
