MicrosoftはWindows Update経由で、Office等オペレーティングシステム以外のMicrosoft製品のアップデートも提供しています(Windows Update > 詳細オプション > その他のMicrosoft製品の更新プログラムを受け取る)。
今回この製品の中にVisual Studioが含まれるようになることが、MicrosoftのVisual StudioチームのMads Kristensen氏のXへの投稿により明らかになりました(Neowin)。

Developer Community for Visual Studioウェブサイトの投稿によると、提案されているアップデートの仕組みは、サポートされているすべてのVisual StudioリリースとVisual Studio 2022、2019、2017のLTSCチャンネルに適用されます。ただし、プレビュー版には適用されません。
Starting in August 2024, Visual Studio security updates will be delivered through the Microsoft Update (MU) system, which is designed to run in the background in a non-intrusive manner. This means that Visual Studio will automatically receive and install monthly security updates on any computer that has opted into “receiving updates from other Microsoft products”. We encourage you to enroll in this feature, as it’s by far the easiest way to stay updated and secure on a monthly cadence.
2024年8月から、Visual Studioのセキュリティ更新プログラムは、Microsoft Update（MU）システムを通じて配信されるようになります。つまり、Visual Studioは、「他のMicrosoft製品からの更新プログラムの受信」を選択したコンピュータで、毎月のセキュリティ更新プログラムを自動的に受信し、インストールします。この機能は、毎月の更新と安全性を維持するための最も簡単な方法ですので、ぜひご登録ください。
Visual Studioのアップデートは「その他のMicrosoft製品の更新プログラムを受け取る」トグルボタンがオンになっている場合にのみ有効になります。
また、レジストリキーを設定することで新しい更新体験をプレビューできます:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Setup\PreviewAutomaticUpdates (REG_DWORD) = 1
オプトアウトするには別のキーを設定します:
HKLMSoftware¥Policies¥MicrosoftVisualStudio¥Setup¥VSthroughMUUpdatesOptOut (REG_DWORD) = 1
Microsoftは8月により使いやすいオプションを提供する予定です。
すでにMicrosoft Updateを利用している開発者にとっては便利な機能となりそうです。
